Baltimore With Kids: A Guide To The Best Places For Family Fun

Early last year, my family took an extended weekend and visited Baltimore! The city is absolutely beautiful, especially around the Inner Harbor area. Baltimore is a great city and is fascinating – both the culture and history.

With so many great food options, places to see, and events going on, it is hard to pinpoint the best options for spending time in the city. However, here are five of the best things that I found to do while visiting the area with children.

Check out the Port Discovery Children’s Museum

If you’re looking for a fun and educational activity to do with your kids in Baltimore, be sure to check out the Port Discovery Children’s Museum. With three floors of interactive exhibits, there’s something for everyone at this museum. Kids can explore a replica of a 19th-century sailing ship, dig for fossils in an archaeological dig site, or play in a life-sized tree house. There’s also a planetarium and an IMAX theater on site.

Port Discovery Children’s Museum is one of the best places for family fun in Baltimore. With hands-on exhibits, programs and events, it’s a great place to explore and learn together.

Visitors can try their hand at being a news anchor, a doctor, or a chef in the museum’s three-story Town Center. Or explore the Kidzone, where they can crawl through tunnels, slide down a two-story slide or build with giant foam blocks.

The museum also offers a variety of programs and events throughout the year, including free family nights, storytimes, and workshops. And don’t forget to check out the Port Discovery Playground – one of the largest playgrounds in Baltimore!

Go Visit the National Aquarium

The National Aquarium is one of Baltimore’s most popular tourist attractions. Situated right on the Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium is home to over 16,000 aquatic animals representing more than 700 species.

Families will enjoy spending a day exploring all the different exhibits the aquarium has to offer. Highlights include the Amazon River Forest, Dolphin Discovery, and Shark Alley. Be sure to check out the 4D Immersion Theater for an extra dose of fun.

If you’re looking for a place to eat, the National Aquarium has you covered. The café offers a variety of kid-friendly options, or you can grab a bite at one of the many restaurants in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor area.

After a day of exploring the National Aquarium, take some time to walk around the Inner Harbor. This area is full of shops, restaurants, and attractions for the whole family.

Visit the Maryland Science Center

The Maryland Science Center is one of Baltimore’s most popular attractions for families. Located in the Inner Harbor, the Science Center offers a variety of interactive exhibits and programs that are perfect for kids of all ages.

One of the most popular exhibits at the Science Center is the Dinosaur Gallery, which features life-size replicas of some of the world’s most famous dinosaurs. Kids can learn about these amazing creatures and even get up close and personal with some of them.

The Science Center also has an IMAX theater, where kids can enjoy educational films on a giant screen. And don’t forget to check out the Planetarium, where you can take a journey through our solar system and beyond.

Whether your family is looking for a fun day out or an educational experience, the Maryland Science Center is sure to please.

Visit the Inner Harbor

If you’re looking for a fun day out with the family, look no further than Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. This world-famous harbor is home to a variety of attractions, shops, and restaurants, making it the perfect place to spend a day with the kids.

The Inner Harbor is also home to the National Aquarium, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Baltimore. The aquarium is home to over 16,000 animals, including sharks, stingrays, and penguins. Kids will love getting up close and personal with some of their favorite sea creatures.

If your kids are into history, they’ll also enjoy visiting the USS Constellation Museum. This historic ship dates back to 1854 and is open for tours daily. Kids can learn about life on board a 19th-century warship while exploring this unique piece of history.

Stop by the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine

Fort McHenry is a must-see for any Baltimore visitor, especially those with kids in tow. The fort is best known as the site of the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812, when it successfully defended the city from a British attack. Today, it stands as a national monument and historic shrine and is home to a museum with interactive exhibits perfect for kids.

During your visit, be sure to stop by the gift shop to pick up a Junior Ranger booklet for your kids to complete during their exploration of the fort. And don’t forget to take a moment to enjoy the stunning views of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor from the fort’s walls.

Baltimore is a great city for families with kids of all ages. From the Inner Harbor to Fort McHenry, there are plenty of places to explore and things to do.
